New Mexico State House · District 59
A proven business leader and dedicated father, fighting for Roswell's prosperity, families, and freedom.
Born and raised in Chaves County, Steve Dodson's roots are deep within the Roswell community. A graduate of Goddard High School and Oklahoma State University, Steve returned home to build a life centered on family, community, and business. He and his wife, Callie, are actively raising four children. Steve's commitment to the next generation is evidenced by his time as a youth baseball coach and league administrator, his public advocacy to reopen youth sports during COVID, and his dedication to youth shooting sports (4-H and NMHSCTA). Additionally, he and his wife served as licensed foster parents from 2016 to 2024.
Steve's professional foundation was built as a technical consultant and systems administrator. As a Senior Consultant at Thermo Fisher Scientific, he managed software and database implementations for many Fortune 500 companies. He previously held a DoD Secret clearance while developing classified SIPRNet sites for the Ballistic Missile Defense Simulation and Support Center. This analytical background led him back to Dodson Wholesale Lumber, where he expanded his repertoire to include budgeting, compliance, human resources, and operations management.
Guided by his Christian faith and a deep-seated belief in individual liberty, Steve envisions a District 59 where families can thrive without government overreach. He sees a New Mexico where the entrepreneurial spirit is rewarded rather than taxed into submission, and where our children are safe, educated, and equipped for the future. Steve's vision is one of a "prosperous community in liberty," where local values are respected in Santa Fe and our natural rights, including the Second Amendment, are protected.
Steve's priorities for District 59 and New Mexico.
Drawing on his experience as a small business principal, Steve will fight to dismantle the growth-killing trifecta of burdensome regulations, government mandates, and pyramiding taxes that have long stifled New Mexico's entrepreneurs. He strongly opposes the costly burdens proposed by the Paid Family Medical Leave Act, unnecessary “net-zero” emissions standards, and all attacks on the oil and gas industry.
As a veteran foster resource parent, Steve will champion external oversight and increased accountability for the CYFD to ensure that no child falls through the cracks and that every placement is safe and supported.
A staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and a certified 4-H shotgun instructor, Steve will oppose any legislation that infringes on the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect their homes and families.
Steve believes in educational outcomes, not systems. Priority should be placed on teaching children how to think, rather than what to think. As the primary architects of their children’s development, parents should be free to choose from an array of high-quality educational options, including charter, private, and homeschools.
